People Are Protesting Hobby Lobby In The Best Way Ever (PHOTOS)

If you thought proponents of birth control were taking a back seat in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that allows for-profit companies to refuse coverage of contraception for religious reasons, think again.

In the most creative, delightfully shady and crafty way, women who are deemed less human than corporations (and their supporters) have taken to Hobby Lobby’s own crafting material to send a clear message.

Get the fuck out of our wombs.

It started with the picture above, one simple message designed with letter blocks at a Hobby Lobby Maryland branch by Policy Mic’s Adam Peck.

“It just seemed like a perfect opportunity to stage a kind of a silent protest, and the chance to use Hobby Lobby’s own products to do it was just too serendipitous to pass up,” Peck told Policy Mic. “I certainly don’t want to encourage other people to ransack their local…

Originally posted on CBS Miami:

MIAMI (AP) — Henderson Alvarez’s outstanding stretch has already put him in the Miami Marlins’ record books, but it’s not sending him to the All-Star game.

The Marlins are looking for an 11th straight win with Alvarez on the mound as he attempts to continue his dominance of the New York Mets in the opener of a three-game set at Citi Field on Friday night.

Alvarez (6-3, 2.27 ERA) is fourth in the NL in ERA, including a 1.04 mark over his last nine outings while going 4-0. His last 10 starts have ended in Marlins victories, the longest active streak in the majors and a team record.

“I’ve always wanted to be a leader,” the 24-year-old right-hander said through a translator. “I’m just focused on being a pitcher.”

Despite his tremendous run, Alvarez was snubbed for his first All-Star appearance. However, he’ll likely be an option as a replacement…

Florida Charter Schools: Follow the Money to Scams and Profiteering

Charter School Explosion: Follow the Money

Patricia W. Hall

Although charter schools must, by Florida law, be overseen by a non -profit board of directors, there are many ways in which for-profit organizations have begun to highjack the charter school movement. For-profit management companies frequently provide everything from back office operations including payroll, contracting with vendors for food services, textbook, etc., to hiring principals and teachers and curriculum control; so what was sold to parents and children as a local public education innovation now looks more like national charter-chains, the “Waltmartization” of public education. Film Review: ‘Tammy’

I love the comedic genius that is Melissa McCarthy and her fearlessness in the roles she chooses! I will DEFINITELY be supporting this new project this weekend! #tammy

Originally posted on Variety:

A well-meaning personal project that never rises above the level of amiable mediocrity, “Tammy” feels like the kind of picture that can happen only when a major talent — here, the unsinkable Melissa McCarthy, who wrote the script with her husband and director, Ben Falcone — has amassed enough clout to try something different. Not that it looks all that different, initially: Playing a disgruntled Midwesterner who impulsively goes on a road trip with her boozy floozy of a grandmother (Susan Sarandon), McCarthy delivers another one of her patented loser-girl comic showcases, all coarse displays of temper, aggression and flailing ineptitude. That the performance and the movie ultimately aspire to something richer — a compassionate look at midlife malaise and cross-generational female bonding — turns out to be more admirable in theory than enjoyable in the execution by the end of this middling misfire.

Still, the fact that the public…

It’s no secret that First Lady Michelle Obama is extremely passionate about higher education, and this month she explains more to ESSENCE Editor-in-Chief Vanessa K. Bush.

Women Lose the News: What Diane Sawyer Stepping Down Means
