First Lady Michelle Obama Covers ESSENCE Magazine, Talks Education, & Raising Smart Kids (DETAILS)

Originally posted on Global Grind:

It’s no secret that First Lady Michelle Obama is extremely passionate about higher education, and this month she explains more to ESSENCE Editor-in-Chief Vanessa K. Bush.

A major ingredient in the recipe for success has to do with nurturing resilience in our children, Michelle explained.

“I know I tell my kids all the time that they shouldn’t shy away from difficult things, because that is the point at which you are really growing. It’s not just about grades or test scores. Today our kids may shy away from applying to college if they think they don’t have the right grade or test score. But the truth is that the kids who succeed and go on to be successful professionals are the ones who know how to work hard,” says Mrs. Obama.

However in order to even get that far, the First Lady explains that children have to see education…

This Week’s #WCW – Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton AND First Lady Michelle Robinson Obama

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Between her interview with Diane Sawyer, tackling crucial issues in her new memoir “Hard Choices,” being a cover girl for this week’s “People” and the online (and offline) fervor for her run for President in 2016, this former NY senator and Secretary of State deserves a laudable spotlight.

But not to be outdone, First Lady Michelle Robinson Obama is equally qualified EVERY week for #WCW.

Michelle Obama’s Secret to Paying for Stylish Wardrobe Revealed

Good, I feel so much better about my Target/Old Navy/Forever 21/H&M wardrobe!

Originally posted on Black America Web:

Ever wonder how Michelle Obama is able to make an affordable fashion statement with her stylish wardrobe?

First, let’s cut to the chase. For all the haters: the taxpayers are NOT footing the bill.

Other than that, the answer is as classified as a covert military operation overseas. Although first ladies are expected to dress well, the Associated Press reports they don’t receive a clothing allowance or a salary to help pay for their clothing.

In its quest to find out who pays for Mrs. Obama’s wardrobe, the news organization referenced the adjusted income for the Obamas last year, which amounted to $481,000. Assets totaled $1.8 million to $7 million. In addition the AP mentions that Mrs. Obama (or rather her personal aide) looks for clothing discounts.

A complete breakdown of the situation comes courtesy of Joanna Rosholm, press secretary to the first lady, who admitted, “Mrs. Obama pays for…

Richard Sherman Plays Seahawks ‘Cook’ To Michelle Obama’s ‘Reporter’

Very cool!

Super Bowl champs can cook, too?

Naw, not really. But Seahawks star Richard Sherman is not afraid to act like he can; especially since he’s joining teammates Russell Wilson, Earl Thomas and First Lady Michelle Obama in a video to promote healthy school lunches.

The video was posted on Thursday and was filmed as part of Mrs. Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign. The campaign is designed to fight childhood obesity. Obama plays a sideline reporter in the video, telling Sherman to “take me through your final plate.”

“We’re the best chefs in the game,” Sherman yells in a parody of his famed postgame rant, “so when you try us with an easy meal like salmon cakes and succotash, that’s the result you’re going to get.”

Wilson and Thomas appear as sous chefs to Sherman, who wasn’t afraid to show off some of his football skills in the video, too.
